Car accidents kill thousands a year

Getting into a car and sitting behind the wheel has become a common activity for many people. For some motorists, driving has become such a regular experience that they forget to take simple precautions.

From texting and eating to not wearing a seat belt, many motorists engage in unsafe driving. Negligent behavior can have lasting effects. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says thousands of Americans are killed each year from injuries sustained from motor vehicle accidents.

"Every 10 seconds, someone in the United States is treated in an emergency department for crash-related injuries, and nearly 40,000 people die from these injuries each year" said CDC's division of unintentional injury prevention director Dr. Grant Baldwin.

Even those who are alert on the road can still be involved in an accident if other motorists aren't being diligent with their driving habits. People would be wise to have all their finances in order in case the unthinkable happens. Having life insurance along with a will set up can help ensure that loved ones are taken care of in the event of an accident.
