There are a number of careers that cause people to put their lives at risk on a regular basis, making life insurance a must for such individuals.
Law enforcement officials are increasingly putting their lives literally in the lines of fire. Data from the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) reveals 2010 has been a particularly dangerous year.
According to NLEOMF data, there was a 20 percent spike in police officers killed at work between 2009 and 2010. It should be noted, however, that the increase comes after two years of declines.
NLEOMF chairman Craig Floyd says law enforcement officials are being stretched too thin.
"Our law enforcement officers are being asked to do more today with less, and it is putting their lives at risk," says Floyd. "In addition to their conventional crimefighting responsibilities, our law officers are on the front lines in the war against terror here at home."
John Maguire puts a face to such fatalities. The Woburn, Massachusetts, officer was killed in front of a retail outlet while on a foot chase with a robbery suspect.
