Parents use life insurance policy for peace of mind

Oct 07, 2011

Life insurance provides families with peace of mind for the future.

Meet Reggie and Vivian Smith. Dad is a firefighter and mom is a teacher. The couple was introduced to the nation recently through Northwestern Mutual's video series showcasing client stories on Facebook. The parents from Dallas shared their confidence in their future financial security with curious consumers via the social media site, according to the Sun Herald.

"My mother always taught me to be prepared and having permanent life insurance in place makes me feel like we are securing our children's futures and our grandchildren's future," Vivian shared with the world in the latest video.

The insurance provider plans to post a new video every month in 2011 in an effort to illustrate the importance of holistic planning for financial security and educate the public on the many benefits of life insurance. And, according to Investopedia, there are many life insurance options many consumers do not know about, such as a probate-free death benefit.

Like the Smiths, most Americans would typically want the beneficiaries of their life insurance to receive the money as soon as possible after their death. While estates must go through a probate before they are passed onto heirs, life insurance proceeds do not need to go through that process. So unless the estate is named the beneficiary, families should receive the proceeds quickly and not be forced to struggle financially.
