A singer is raising awareness for diabetes

Diabetes is a serious conditions that can result in higher health and life insurance premiums. Many people who are diagnosed with the ailment find themselves wanting to do what they can to help find a cure for the disease.

Singer Nikki Lang was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age 10 and her sister received the diagnoses at 18 months. Lang has decided to raise awareness and funds for diabetes by donating all proceeds from iTunes downloads of her song, Feel Better.

American Diabetes Association CEO Larry Hausner says he is thankful for Lang's contribution.

"Nikki Lang and her family have been longtime supporters of the association, we are thrilled that she is adding her voice to the movement to stop diabetes," says Hausner. "Nikki's story is very familiar; she, like so many people with diabetes, has made it her mission to find a cure for this disease, infusing the fight with passion, commitment and creativity."

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says some common symptoms of diabetes include excessive thirst, extreme hunger, and changes in vision. It's important for those who think they have a medical condition to consult their physician.
