Social media and mobile solutions in life insurance industry

Interactive games engage consumers and provide educational resources.

Progressive Insurance recently launched the Sims Social on Facebook, a social media platform allowing the provider to connect directly with existing and prospective customers. The Facebook portal presents customers with an online game that rewards players with relevant content regarding financial planning and product information.

In the program, users are given a series of tasks to complete throughout the game. When these quests are complete, players will be rewarded with Progressive-themed unicorns, which can be displayed in their digital homes, and receive daily benefits.

The goal of the game is to engage consumers with the brand, while creating awareness of the value of life insurance and other financial products to safeguard against hardship in the future. The Sims game is one of many online, interactive adventures Progressive has deployed to provide customers with a fun way to learn about financial planning.

Also launching an online tool for customers, Loyal American Life Insurance Company recently deployed a consolidated Express App combining the application process of four products into one web tool.

Brad Wolfram, president of the GASB division, said the app is intuitive and easy to navigate. Customers can select product and benefits from the app, enabling customization of coverage and plans all one one screen. It allows the application process to be paperless and more efficient for consumer and life insurance agent.
