Making Life Insurance Awareness Month Part of Your Marketing Plan

Sep 16, 2011 2 Minute Read

Observed each year in September, Life Insurance Awareness Month (LIAM) is a great opportunity to leverage a public campaign with your customers.  If life insurance is already top of mind, it is a perfect time to consider how to include Life Insurance Awareness Month in your marketing strategy.

Life Insurance Awareness Month

Coordinated annually by the Life and Health Insurance Foundation for Education (Life), Life Insurance Awareness Month is designed to help consumers understand the importance and value of life insurance. The LIFE Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping people make educated decisions about their insurance coverage. LIFE works to create public awareness around life insurance, disability insurance, health insurance and long-term care insurance.  Through a series of annual campaigns, LIFE helps millions of consumers understand the importance of insurance coverage each year. Additional LIFE awareness campaigns include:  Insure Your Love and Disability Insurance Awareness Month.

The 2011 Life Insurance Awareness Month promises to be bigger and better than ever. With a series of exciting outreach initiatives scheduled, life insurance is sure to be a trending topic throughout the month.  This year’s celebrity spokesperson is popular LA Lakers forward, and two-time NBA Champion, Lamar Odom. The LIFE Foundation, as well as the LIMRA, will be taking great strides to bring to the topic of life insurance front and center throughout September. Be sure to take this opportunity to work LIAM into your marketing strategy.

Life Insurance Awareness Month and Your Marketing Efforts

As we kick off Life Insurance Awareness Month, you will have many opportunities to educate your existing and prospective customers about the importance of life insurance. Be sure to mention LIAM in any marketing materials you plan to distribute this month. Focus your newsletter and social media efforts on LIAM. If you do not already distribute a newsletter and/or have a social media presence, this is a great time to start. Provide links to the LIFE and LIMRA sites. Provide regular updates about the information being shared on both sites. Watch for public service announcements from Lamar Odom and bring attention to each.  And finally, mention Life Insurance Awareness Month to consumers every chance you get.  In drawing attention to this worthwhile annual event you will be educating your lead pool and establishing yourself as a well-connected member of the life insurance industry.
